IPL/BBL Photorejuvenation

What is IPL/BBL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and BroadBand Light (BBL) are advanced non-invasive treatments belonging to a class of treatments known as “photorejuvenation” procedures.  These treatments are designed to address various skin concerns, including pigmentation, redness, and signs of aging.  At A New You Skin & Body Clinic, we offer expert IPL and BBL treatments to help you achieve a clearer, more youthful complexion.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and BBL (BroadBand Light) are light-based therapies that utilize high-intensity pulses of light to penetrate the skin and address specific skin concerns.  Sometimes, you will hear about this group of treatments referred to as “Photorejuvenation” treatments.  While both treatments share similarities, they have some distinct differences in terms of technology and application.

How Do IPL and BBL Work?

IPL and BBL treatments work by delivering controlled pulses of light to the skin.  The light energy is absorbed by specific areas of the skin, such as pigmented spots or blood vessels, without damaging the surrounding tissue.  This process stimulates the body’s native healing response, advancing the regeneration of healthy skin cells and collagen production.

What is the difference?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

IPL is a versatile treatment that can target a variety of skin issues, including pigmentation conditions, sun damage, rosacea, and fine lines.  This treatment works by emitting a broad spectrum of light wavelengths that are absorbed by the pigment in the skin.  This absorption process generates heat, which damages the targeted cells and stimulates the body’s natural healing process.  IPL technology has been widely used in dermatology and aesthetic medicine since the 1990s and is known for its ability to rejuvenate the skin with minimal downtime.  It is particularly effective for treating larger areas and multiple skin issues simultaneously.

BBL (BroadBand Light)

BBL, developed by Sciton, is an advanced form of IPL that offers greater precision and customizable treatments.  BBL technology uses a broader range of light wavelengths and allows for more precise control over the intensity and duration of the light pulses.  This enhanced control enables practitioners to tailor treatments to the specific needs of each patient, targeting various skin concerns with higher accuracy and effectiveness.  BBL is especially effective for addressing fine lines, age spots, and vascular lesions.  Additionally, BBL treatments can stimulate collagen production, improving overall skin texture and tone.

BBL’s enhanced precision and customizable settings allow for more targeted skin treatments, which can lead to better outcomes for certain skin conditions.  BBL is also known for its ability to deliver more consistent results and to treat a wider range of skin types and concerns.

FAQs

About IPL/BBL

Yes, IPL and BBL are FDA-approved and considered safe when performed by a qualified Georgia State Licensed Laser Practitioner.  These treatments have been extensively tested and have a strong safety record.

Most patients experience only mild discomfort during these treatments, often described as a snapping or stinging sensation.  We can use topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort if needed.

Initial improvements can be seen within a few days to weeks after the treatment, with full results developing over the following several weeks as the skin heals and new collagen forms.

The number of treatments required varies depending on individual goals and the extent of skin damage.  Many individuals attain their desired results with a series of 3 to 5 sessions.

The most common side effects we see include temporary redness, swelling, and a sunburn-like sensation in the treated area.  These effects are mild and resolve on their own.
